Engaging farm and woodland activities for children aged 2 to 4 with their carers.

At Muddy Mice, we are dedicated to nurturing a love for nature and farming in young children. Our activities are designed to be both educational and fun for children and their grown-up to enjoy together. We provide a safe environment for you to explore. Based on a working farm in Harpenden, your little ones will enjoy meeting our animals, immersing themselves in nature...and literally into puddles! Our small groups sessions are 45mins, but sometimes we get carried away, so please allow 1hr! Sessions start in our woodland den and then we head out for fun adventures around the farm.

Farmer Emma is the founder of Muddy Mice. She lives on the farm where she can look after her chickens and help Farmer Stuart with the animals.

An original attendee of Muddy Mice with her son, Farmer Jenny now helps Farmer Emma at Muddy Mice. She is from a farming family and loves big tractors!

Farmer Jane loved bringing her children to Muddy Mice so much, that when we asked her to join the team in 2023 , she jumped at the chance! She is a lover of nature and experienced teacher.

Be sure to give Farmer Chas a big wave when you see him hard at work on the farm. He's usually busy feeding the animals, fixing machines or taking us on exciting tractor and trailer rides around the farm.

Bingo is a weekly feature here at Muddy Mice, we greet him at the start of each session by singing his favourite songs.

Billy is a fond, but grumpy member of the team.

They arrived on the farm in May 2024 as tiny piglets. Not so small now, they enjoy their muddy sty next to the chickens.

Alfie and Darci are two friends from their days on the beach giving children rides. They are enjoying their retirement at the farm, especially when the Muddy Mice children feed them carrots!

We will keep the waiting list going and make contact as soon as we are able to offer places. Existing attendees get the chance to keep their places before we offer any new spaces so we cannot predict how many places will be available each new term.
Please reach us at muddymice1@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We run our sessions all year round from our Woodland Den. In exceptionally poor weather we will postpone the session. At the end of each term we keep a 'reserve' week for this eventuality. We strongly advise on dressing for the weather - boots, waterproofs, hats & suncream.
We suggest you use the toilet before you arrive as they are a 5 - 10minute walk from our Den but a Potty is available or Wild Wees are OK.
Most of the farm is accessible with a buggy, though be prepared for some muddy wheels in wetter months!
Yes, younger siblings are welcome, we just ask you sign them up when they are old enough to start participating.
As we carry out a variety of activities it is OK for pregnant ladies to attend. In the event of meeting lambs we will inform you in advance and direct you to

All our sessions are booked and paid for on a termly basis.
As most of our sessions are fully booked for the term we cannot usually accommodate extra children for a trial.
